My names Nigel I'm a regular on a large stretch of the wye for the last 2 years. I use to be a huge carp fan til I caught my first barbel at 9lb 2oz. Now I'm hooked on getting the large double. Can't wait til the water drops a bit to get back on the river but at the moment the wye is pretty hard to fish

Hi Fella's,

My name is Chris, I've been doing a fair bit of Barbel fishing over the last few seasons (when time allows!).

I fish mainly the Wye around Ross-on-Wye and the Severn around the Tewkesbury area. I've caught fish to just in to low doubles, and am keen to make a greater effort to up that this season.

My favourite method of fishing is free lining.... as you can probably imagine these flood conditions have put a stop to all that!

Tight lines everyone

hi guys, my name is rob or bob i dont mind i have fished since i was about seven years old ,i caught my first barbel when i was 11 years old from the thames at leyhlam near chertsey and i have been hooked ever since and i will be seventy next march, i have varied fishing interests including sportfishing for bass which i find all consuming i also fish a lott for carp etc.i fish for my barbel with the stick float as i find sitting behind a feeder rod not my cup off tea (totaly different to sitting behind carp rods ),as when i am by the river i feel as i should be doing more than just sitting there.i have recently fished the warwickshire avon and i had a few from about seven and a half to about 11 pounds which was great as i havent been to a river for about four years due to mobility prob,s but i will be going back for more thats for sure..

regards rob.and tight lines to all.

Hi Everyone,

The name's chris and I am totally new to barbel fishing this season. Mostly been a sea fisherman for donkeys years but moving to Shropshire its quite a long way to the sea! So thought that I would give the Severn a go.

First few weeks were hard going and all I had were chub to 4lb. Then I started having sucess but only when the river was in part flood or the water was coloured. Recently have had over 200lb of Barbel (ususally 4-8 fish per session) up to 8 and a half pounds.

Just purchased a TFG banshee barbel and Force 8GT 5000 freespool as a second combo - other is a Wychwood tri-tip Barbel and Fox 7000E. Can't wait to get out this weekend and give the new rod and reel a christening!

Found sonubaits hemp and spicy sausage pellets been really successful - combine sometimes with lobs.

Tight lines everyone,

Chris

Hi all you barbel fanatics!
First time i've posted on this forum so I'll introduce myself. Names Jack (as you could probably have guessed) and I've been a big barbel fan for a few years now. Living in Cumbria makes barbel fishing pretty hard work as the nearest river is the Ribble (an hour and a half's drive away!), but on it's day can be good fishing, good for big chub too!
Only other river I've fished for barble is the trent, but we're having a week fishing the Severn in a few weeks time. Can't wait as it's a river I've always wanted to fish, any of you guys know of any good areas around bridgenorth/bewdley I'm all ears!
PB so far is 12 lb 4 but I'm hoping to crack that this Autum/Winter.

Cheers for reading
Jack

New to barbel fishing, hope to catch a double from the river Tees. Just got back into fishing after a long lay off when I used to fish for Carp.
Fishing the Middlesbrough strech of the Tees heard there has been fish to 13 and a half, first session produced one chub about 3pound, had to violent pull rounds that broke the 6 pound hair.
Antbody else fish the Tees for barble

Hi all,

A few may recognise the screen name from other forums.
I have spent the last few years ater bream, and have decided that 2011 is going to be the all round year. I used to match fish the trent alot, but will be attacking it for the barbel now.

PB to date is 4.12 so just a baby to most of you, have set a 2011 fish at 8lb, but mate says i should at least go for a double.....lol

Hoping to share info (well will be getting most of it off you guys) and who knows, i may even be able to contribute to the threads wtih my limited knowledge...

Hi,
I have been fishing for a variety of species for nearly 40 years, caught my first barbel over 20 years ago from the Royalty, love the fish and the environment that they inhabit.
Due to my location, fishing on proper rivers is a bit of a jaunt, but I will go whenever I get the chance. Besides Barbel, I also fish for Carp and Pike.
Looking forward to some fishy banter.

Thanks Daniel.

I'm planning to fish an increidbly clear, small, shallow but quite fast-flowing chalkstream. I've been for a wander along the bank and there are some really nice, and sizeable fish in there, but I don't really know the best way to tackle them...an suggestions? the local kids were freelining cheese and had a few chub to their name but hadn't hit the barbel yet.

Hi there
I've joined the forum today for some advice really. Having tired a little of the way carp fishing has gone, I've decied to challenge myself this year to catch a barbel. I've only caught one before, by fluke in a Southern French river, so I really want to have a go over here. Provided nobody minds, I might try to tap some of your brains in the not too distant future.
Thanks
JB

How's it goin Ben? My name's Rob. With regards to the severn, Shropshire anglers have some good streches on a day ticket around the Shrewsbury area. Monkmoore, Emstrey, Sidney ave to name but a few. The permit is £25. wich runs til the end of the year, plus £3. for a gate key wich you will need for Monkmoore! Had a great first session there. Bridgnorth, Hampton loade & High leigh further down. used to do all my Barbel fishin @ Bridgnorth but switched to Shrewsbury as it's closer for us,(Cheshire). Found some good swims that arent over fished & the Barbel are in good nick. Oh and some decent sized ones too! All the best. Rob.

Hi fellas
My names Jase and im in the army currently posted near Shefford, ive been barble fishing for around 5 years now. Its hard moving around with the army and only having a couple of years to suss out a venue before moving on again. Ive got good knowledge of the River Dove if anyone needs some direction. As i said im in shefford bedfordshire and trying to decide on a ticket to buy and where to fish, ive been told the Ivel around biggleswade but found it really pressured and the ouse around the harrold area but again been told its difficult and you need to know the stretch well. Can anyone help ?.

Hi all, been a barbeler for 12 years now. Mostly on the Severn anywhere from Shrewsbury to Bewdley, also fished Wye @ Goodrich nr Ross,( the best place i've ever fished). I'm also lucky to have a half decent stretch of the river Dane just a stones throw away from where i live, that throws up the odd decent fish? My reason for joining the forum, is because of the very poor season alot of us had on the rivers last season in search of the river pig, so it will be interesting to see how this season pans out?Good luck for the new season all.

Hello, I have just joined the forum, and will be needing all your help to find my first Barbel. I have been fising for over 20 years, but always lakes (carp mainly), I have caught some good fish, but about a month ago one of the lads I worked with took me for a session on the River Ouse near Olney, and we had a quality session. I am now hooked on the rivers, and after landing a 6lb Tench and a 5lb Chub, I am now focussing on catching a Barbel. I thank you all in advance for any help or advice you can give me.

HI
Names jon and im 28. Just had one of the best weeks fishing of my life on the River Severn. Broke my p.b 5 times in 2 days and it now stands at 7lb 7oz which may not be a specimen to some but im chuffed to bits lol. Only been barble fishing for 2 years and its on and off as its a 1 hr 20min drive to my nearest haunt which is a fairly hard stretch of the Trent. Changing jobs at the moment to one with less hours so im hoping to increase my hours on the bank as if you pardon the pun im hooked on it . My next target is a double so if anyone can name a venue remotely near to Grimsby, Lincolnshire I would be very grateful. I had set targets for the year of a 30lb catfish which has been done, a good double figure pike which also got fulfilled so now its a 20lb+ carp and a double figure barble. The road ahead may be hard but im up for the challenge. Tight lines

Hi everyone, have just joined up,hoping to share and gain knowledge regarding successful barbel angling!! I live near Norwich in Norfolk, and although we have here a splendid barbel fishing river in the Wensum, most of my angling is spent carp fishing! My barbel outings have been limited over the last few years, mainly fishing the river Swale,in North Yorkshire.Every year for the past four years, myself and two fishing buddies,Glen the Hood & Skoda Scholey take a trip up to Yorkshire to spend three days on the Swale in search of barbel, with moderate success. This year, around late August, early September we are thinking of a three day session somewhere on the Wawickshire Avon, but hav'nt got a clue where to start!! Can anyone help put us in the right direction as to where is a good place to start fishing? Also if a good fisherman friendly bed & breakfast could be reccomended.

Many thanks Micky A

Hello, i am Ronald, alias Barbelhunter from the Netherlands.

I'm fishing for 2 years now on Barbel and caught 'till now over a 225 Barbels from 35cm to my personal record of 80cm.

I own a site named www.barbeel.eu , it's dutch, but still working on a multilanguage site.

One page is already in englisch, please read it and there is more to come.

If you wish to get more information about how and where we fish in the Netherlands, please ask me and i will repley.

Hi All,

I'm Glenric and I fish competitively in South Africa. Sadly I was not a member of the national team in the 10th Carp World Championships, but ecstatic that we are the World Champions. I am available to assist anyone who wishes to come and fish in South Africa and I'm directly connected to Carp Angling, Fly Fishing both Salt and Fresh water, Bass Angling and Conventional Salt Water Angling both Shore and Boat. We have some excellent tiger fish venues that will turn any pike angler lime green with envy. For those who do not know about our tiger fish, it is best described as an express freight train with excessive attitude and loads of testosterone.

I would really appreciate any information on web sites or forums specifically linked or focused on Club Matches, Tournament, Championships or any other competitive angling for Carp, Pike, Chub, Barbel catfish and any other specie please. Your input will be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, just a short note to introduce myself as new to the forum. I've been fishing many years, fly course and sea but never really focused on river fishing and never caught barbel. I've recently moved to Warwick area and having walked a bit of the Avon, am really keen to focus my attention. More important, I recently found out my Dad, who gave me the love of fishing has never caught one - so for him more than me I hope you guy's/ girls can give me tips and advice on locations that will improve my chance to give my dad something back, he comes to visit me a few times a year and we always get out fishing, but never the river! look forward to sharing back with you all in time.

Hi Chaps,

Just thought you'd like to know I caught my first Barbel (actually caught 2) the other night, not a monster at 3.5 lbs (the other was about 2 lb) but nearly pulled the rod in none the less. Can't wait to get back down there to try for something bigger!!

Good Evening Chaps, Just introducing myself to the forum as I'm looking to pick up some helpful hints from you guys on catching barbel. I am ashamed to say I have yet to catch one, (although to be honest I have never tried to yet!), I am a reasonably successful carp angler and fancy a bit of a new challenge, I have just become a member of a stretch of river on the Severn and understand there is a reasonalbe head of double figure barbel in the stretch. I look forward to reading some of the threads and getting some tips.

Cheers

Another Newbie,
I used to fish the severn at Atcham but now fish the wye as it is closer. On my first trip if you read the report I did much better than expected with 7 wye Barbel on the bank (metaphorically speaking as unhooked them in the water).

Hi

Am relatively new to Barbel fishing, having only caught my first one about 12 months ago. I live in Lancashire where there aren't really that many Barbel venues, however we are blessed with the Ribble where for the price of a Wigan Angling season ticket (about £25) I have access to some of the best fishing I have ever experienced.

I am primarily a Carp angler, however the Barbel are rapidly taking over. I tend to feeder fish pellets and boilies on the Ribble and have had up to 70lb in a day. Last weekend I had my PB of 11lb 2oz, which totally blew me away. I thought Carp fought hard but this was somethign else.

Can't beat the feeling of a biggun stripping 15lb line from your clutch whilst you hang on for grim death - long may the Ribble remain the way it is, wild, windswept, quiet (anglers that is) and stuffed with fish. I love it!!

Hi to all,
42 years young scouser that started fishing for bites on the Leeds Liverpool. Eventually stared catching some incredible bags of Tench, my favourite species. Been carp fishing a few years now, member of stoke but always start the year on the dove. In my humble opinion one of the most natural looking rivers in the north west

Hi to all
My name is gareth im new to the forum been fishing since i was about 7 im now 24.
I started going down the rivers for barbel about 3 years ago but ever really got serious but now ive got back into it.
I had my P.Bs this year back in August it took my mate scales round to 7 1/2 lbs which is not that big compaired to the size they do go to but it was the best fight ive ever had

This year im hoping to get some barbel fishing in but not sure were to go this time of year as i now river access is limited due to water levels rising.

Anyone got any ideas
